Sleep on it, before any decision you make

In the last three years, I have had to make so many decisions on my own, from choosing my major, the college I wanted to go to, the job, and many, many other adult decisions. Many people have walked the same path, some time in their life at some point. So many choices and decisions that can change the course of your life. From choosing the wrong major in college to deciding when to move out of your parents house, all these decisions can flip the plot of life  from good to great or to worst.  When making so many decisions and having even more options and opportunities, it has dried up for us to compute all the data that we receive. I have experienced my brain malfunctioning and lagging, even with making the smallest decisions.  For example, until that day, I have hard time deciding what drink I wanted for my lunch, so I always let my friend order for me. Not because I can't make small decisions, but I trust my buddy for her excellent taste of choice and soda and lemonade b...

Deep Water Review.... but it's only my reaction.

Do you ever see an horror movie and think, "oh my go" I hacebto show this to my friend. But then you worry that they might not have the same reaction to this as you did.  Well that's is how I feel at least. I think there are ao many thoughts that go through my mind everytime I watch a movie. Especially with horror movie, where I try to solve the problem before it is revealed. Well, I thibk Deep Water (2022) was  one such movie, that made me want to share my reaction with all my friends. So here it is... Deep Water review, but it is just my reaction to each scene.  Spoiler Alert: it's a reaction video so it has spoilers The sound in the prime credits had me taking notes, cuz I knew it was going tobe a fun ride. I know the movie is a thriller, and the lady is playing the part very well, of course.  So she is a narcessitsing swinger, and he is a psychopathic killer? So they are both having fun out of this ordeal.  Oh wow, she is ruthless.  I LOVE T...

The Maid by Nita Prose : Book Review

My first murder mystery of the year and it doesn't disappoint. The Maid tells the story of, molly the maid, working at The regency grand hotel, who is falsely arrested for a suspected murder, and how she with the help of few trust worthy people removes the blame from her head.  After familiarising with the writer, and understanding that she has worked in editing, my expectation sky rocketed. In the beginning the books felt really monotonous, but soon I grew into the writing style. The characters, especially Molly the maid, are very well written. The switch in between the characters gets better as you continue reading.  The book doesn't have unnecessary details, so it doesn't get boring at any point. My problem with most of the books is the slow pace, but The maid DOES not disappoint in the arena.  The intricate detailing, the build up, the reveal, the blind side action, everything made this very different from other books.  Not going to lie, in the beginn...

How to embrace Dolce Far Niente: The art of doing nothing.

We have all seen that reel, we have heard that audio multiple times on our Instagram feed, supposedly everybody wants to embrace the art of doing nothing or as the Italians call it Dolce Far Niente.  The truth is we don't know how to do that, we don't know how to not do anything.  What is Dolce Far Niente? Dolce Far Niente Italian verb which means the sweetness of doing nothing (according to the Instagram audio) literally translating to pleasant idleness. It means to relax, enjoy and be free of all responsibilities, negative emotions, burdens and liabilities. When I think of Dolce Far Niente, I picture my room with the sunlight coming through the window, relaxing on the bed with the book in my hand.  I asked some of my friends. Most of them imagine similar things, relaxing in their house without worrying about work or school.  Some people think Dolce Far Niente can be impressed on exotic vacation without worrying about things too.  And they are all r...

Interviews on paper | New trend in the print industry?

Books and novels have not been limited to reading anymore. although the idea is not a groundbreaking inventory of the digital age, you can also enjoy a book in audio format with more access than ever before, the same goes for the vice versa.  Interviews and radio shows, which were were an auditory medium have now collided with print media to produce an all-new genre of books where the story is narrated in the format of interview and radio program scripts.  The inspiration behind this blog write-up comes from Sadie by Courtney Summers, which I finished a couple of days before. It was a fanatic book with a compelling story of murder, mystery, revenge, and crime told in the most engaging non-linear narrative.  It follows a parallel narrative between Sadie, a girl gone missing to seek revenge for the murder of her sister, and a radio program that investigates the disappearance of Sadie.  For a full review of this book (or other books), check out m...

People only look at the wrong thing | Essay on "Turning Red 2022"

You are only a teenager once in your life, and it is not the best part of your life. Always hormonal, face full of pimples. Weird things are happening to your body and you are not sure what's up and don't even get me started on the number of crushes you get at that age.  I loved being a teen but it was not as fun as movies make it to be. That's the subplot of the movie turning red by Domee Shi. 13-year old Mei Lee is born into a family bleed by spirits. She and all the women in her family before her bore a special power, and turned into giant red pandas upon exhibiting over the top emotion. The trailer of the movie did not hold me very excited, I presumed it to be another coming of age movie, but I forgot that it is Disney Pixar, and it's not just normal ever. My peak of interest arose after seeing at least 5 posts a day about how the movie is being in controversy for being showing pads and talking about menstruation.   Menstruation is not something spe...

All the mistakes Writers made in Fresh (2022)

Hannibal Lecter and Joe Goldberg are two of my favourite characters. And when both of them to life came together as Steve Kemp in Mimi Cave directed movie Fresh , I had my calendar marked for the release date.  Cannibalism is the ideal base of any horror movie for any horror movie. A crime that heinous can be the most triggering content, even for thriller and horror fans, but also the most tricky to work with. Not enough can leave you unsaturated and too much can make the whole sequence too tacky for cinema.  I was really exhilarated by the trailer of Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar Jones starter Fresh (2022), however, as a film student, amateur film critic and writer, this film was only half satisfying.  Trigger warning: Cannibalism, murder, black marketing, kidnapping, stalking, manipulation, violent images. Also, Spoilers.  Plot Noa , a young woman yearning for one true love is left disappointed after a string of unsuccessful, ride, and ...

Why I read, and you should too.

If you Google 'why should I read' or ' why people read', you will get over 7,82,00,00,000 search results, that's more than the article you can ever read in one lime. We have always been encouraged to read more. Nobody, however, explains to you why you should read more, and what you should read. Reading is a very personal experience, like everything else. If you read a comic book, is it still read? Yes. Reading from a blog, to the article, to the report of Forbes magazine about this years '30 under 30 Artists' is also reading. You can read anything and everything, and it would have the same impact on you. Here are reasons why reading helps me. For Fun Getting the most obvious reason out of the way, I read for fun. I read books for the story, fantasy, romance, action, drama, but most of all the murder mystery. I read whenever I can find time to partake in an astral projection of my mind into the world of fantasy. It is said that a reader li...

CODA (2021) | Short Review

CODA stands for Children Of Deaf Adults, the precise topic of the film.  This is not a typical “I am 17-year-old making sacrifices for my family, and that makes me the best” kind of movie. Though the 17-year old was ready to make the biggest sacrifice of her career, and life to the day.  Ruby, our protagonist, is stuck in a small town because she is the only hearing and talking member of her family, making her the translator for the small family business. When she is left to choose between her talent and her family, the decision is on her shoulder.  What is so great about this? The troups are quite simple I would say, with the most common troup of a coming of age movie. Sian Heder however uses those cliche ingredients to present the most fabulous dish on the menu. The movie has the most “Disney-esk'' plot line but it is not cheesy.  It's not only about how Ruby is ready to stay in the small town and give up on her dream career in music, but it also gives the story of...

The Hands Of God: Review

So over the weekend, I saw the hand of god by Paolo Sorrentino .  Not every movie makes you move. Not every movie leaves you wrecked after the viewing, and not every movie makes you want to sit down and write a review in praise of it. This is one of the movies that make you do all that.  This movie was a part of my Oscars nominated spree, and I jumped into it with no expectations. I knew that it was nominated in the foreign film category, but the title gave away nothing, and since I don't read the synopsis before watching the movies, I didn't know what I was going for.  It comes from my heart when I tell you that this movie- sorry, film is something that I felt in my guts and my core.  Plot: The Hand of God is a coming-of-age movie, following the life of Fabietto Schisa, a teen in Naples, Italy during the summer of 1998. He and his family spent the summer together, until a tragedy struck, leaving him and his brother orphans.  The films have many hear...

Complete 94th Oscars Nominated Watch List

They say ‘Learn from the best’, but how do you define ‘Best’? What is the criteria of best? And how do you decide that something is best and nothing better can be done? When it comes to books, it seems like all books are ‘New York Times Best Sellers’. But then again, are all books the best?  When it comes to movies, the Oscars seem to be the landmark of excellence. Every year I, like millions around the world, watch the awards, and the anticipation of watching you favourite Actor/ Actress/ Director walking up the stairs to the Oscars is exciting on some different scale. This year, 276 movies were eligible for nomination for the Oscars, and being a film fanatic, I downloaded the list so I could watch them all. Halfway through, I realized that it is impossible for me (and frankly anyone) to watch all the movies before the main event itself.  So I waited till the nominations were out to watch all the movies that were nominated. Even though the list is shorter, there are still 53 ...
