1000+ Book Recommendation: Never Ask for Book Recommendations Again.

1,000 Books to Read Before You Die: A Life-Changing List by James Mustich Review

This is the ultimate read for a reader, Written by a fellow passionate reader.

This book was like discovering an oasis in the desert. For every read, you must read this. “1,000 Books to Read Before You Die” is the ultimate compilation for a book lover, writer and book-obsessed individual. An exciting reading material, it has over 1000 book recommendations of mixed genres, the best work of writers, as well as detailed descriptions of synopsis of each book.

What's good? 👍

For every book, you get a synopsis, similar pieces of works and movie recommendations (the best part). If you have this book, you are all set for years with must-reads-worthy recommendations of a highly acclaimed, popular and diverse range of books.

For every book you get at least 5 added recommendations, so while the title mentions 1000 books, you are surely getting more than what you can ask for. You can also backtrack the process, and read the main title if you find your 5-star read in the “further section”. This is something I did for Time and Again by Jack Finney, once I found it may be similar to The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (a book I really enjoyed).

In between the pages, there are some hidden gems that you may not have heard about if you take most of your recommendations from Bookstagram and BookTok.

What's not good? 👎

I only have one complaint, that there aren't many Eastern writers mentioned in the book. This is missing many sensational works by only focusing on books in the English language. Therefore, this book is best suited for English speakers and beginners who want to expand their database.

For me, I've read only 28 out of the main titles in the checklist, so I have a lot of catching up to do. This combined with the Goodreads recommendations, you will never need to ask “What should I need next?” If you are interested in this book, you can find it on Kindle. So, this is definitely a one-time read for every reader and writer.

However, if you have read this one or don't agree with the recommendations on this one, then 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die by Peter Ackroyd and Peter Boxall is a better alternative that fills in the gaps left by James Mustich's book.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019) Review

Even if you are mildly interested in true crime and crime dramas, the names of Ted Bundy and Jeffery  Dahmer are  not unknown to you. The mainstream media and the internet have a strange yet understandable fascination with the minds of these twisted creatures. If you search for “Ted” on google, Ted Bundy would be the second recommendation on the site, which speaks volumes for the popularity of the psychotic serial killer. Even after 30 years of execution of Ted Bundy, he remains one of the most notorious serial killers on the planet.  In 2019, American filmmaker Joe Berlinger directed 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile' which became the hot topic of American cinema. The film tells the tale of the crime and trial of Theodore Bundy. Starring Zac Efron as Ted, the movie has been very successful. As per my habits, I am late to the parade of trends.  Of all the recommendations I read before watching the movie, the majority of the reviews had the same ...

The Butterfly Effect - An Allegory

On a rainy afternoon, Geet ran out the door to the courtyard, the single sheet of paper rustling in her hands. the bare feet slapping against the rain-soaked cobblestone path to the house next door. To wait for the rain to stop seemed like an impossibly long span of time.  Before she could slow down, she saw the door open. Crashing into the arm of the person on the other side, her first thought was about the paper she was carrying. Paridhi under her weight could only see the biggest, brightest smile on her face.  She knew what it meant. Without speaking a single word she knew they would be spending the next three years of college together.  This was not the first time their life has led them to the same paths. It all started with both Mrs Tripathi and Mrs Sharma having to be taken in the same ambulance down to the local hospital, just before midnight on 21st June. Born just 3 minutes apart. Mrs Tripathi was fixated on naming her daughter Geet for the last three months, bu...

23 lessons for 23-year-old me.

I turned 23 yesterday.  This birthday was the most unusual because for the first time in my small life so far I have postponed my birthday celebration. This week I was swamped with deadlines, and my friends were still buzzing with Valentine's day celebrations (disadvantages of having a birthday right after the lovers' holiday). So we mutually agreed that we would party on the weekend instead. So I had a very intimate family dinner and went back to my desk after eating the cake.  However, this is not the point of this blog. Yesterday made me think "man! I have grown up!" because as a teenager I would spiral into sadness at this fact. I love birthday parties as much as I love reading. So not having all my favourite people around me and having a good time isn't how I envision my birthday.  That being said, I accepted the fact that I am older. I never imagined myself being 23, let alone any age other than retirement age. Again I'm touching on topics that are too d...
